Reptiles Tools and Supplies

Like any pet, shelter and food are the two most basic requirements of reptiles. Unlike other pets (e.g. dogs and cats), they don't require affection from their owners. The most complicated part of owning a reptile is providing it a habitat that closely resembles its habitat in the wild. In recreating this habitat, interested pet hobbyists have to be financially prepared for the costs toward building an enclosure complete with tools for maintaining ideal heat, temperature, humidity level, and lighting. Owners may face also difficulty in securing food as most pet reptiles require live food. Having said that, tthe environmental and food needs of reptiles vary across species. Desert lizards, for instance, require desert enclosures, while tropical lizards require moist environments. Turtles require low temperature during hibernating season. Snakes love mice and rats, while lizards are happy with insects. Researching the species one is interested in before purchase is of utmost importance.

Fluorescent Strip Bulbs: Day active lizards require a form of ultraviolet light called UVB to synthesize a vitamin called D3. Vitamin D3 is needed by reptiles to metabolize calcium in their food. Fluorescent strip bulbs prevent this from taking place by providing...
